The Importance of Consistency and how it can Help Towards Success

For the past 3 years since owning Pegasus Estate, I’ve strived to stay consistent about consistency. Even the best business plans will fail without a dedication to consistency.

If I say I’m going to do something, I do it. If I say I’m going to be somewhere, I’m there. In my experience, consistency is a must as you build and grow your business.

Until you have tried something new for a period of time and consistently, you can’t decide whether it works or not.

I will usually give new processes at least six months before judging them a success or failure. It’s often minor tweaking that makes the difference. You need to give something time before you can decided whether it is worth doing or not.

Why Do We Struggle With Consistency?

There are several things that can cause us to struggle with consistency. These can include:

  • Lack of patience.
  • Desire for instant success.
  • Lack of focus.
  • Having a “all or nothing” mindset.

When you know the reasons why consistency is an important habit to have, you can take steps to develop it.

In the day to day running of my business I need to be consistent, I need to follow certain steps to achieve success. Even just on the blog for example I consistently post on a Saturday at 10am every week as then this means that my readers will always know what to expect and I have a better chance of success.

Forming a new habit can be difficult because it’s easier to go back to what we’re comfortable with. Our ability to be consistent requires self-control, which means we don’t allow ourselves to get off track.

What some people don’t understand is that consistency will lead to progress and progress will push you in the right direction of being able to achieve your goals. This will build your confidence, which will help you set bigger goals.

Small actions carried out repeatedly will become to big results over time. When you do something over a long period, you will differentiate yourself from those who aren’t consistent. This can help attract new opportunities that may not have been possible if you hadn’t been consistent.

To put it simply it’s like the story of the tortoise and the hare. The hare is very confident of winning, so it stops during the race and falls asleep. The tortoise continues to move very slowly but consistently without stopping and finally it wins the race. The moral of the story is that you can be more successful by doing things slowly and steadily rather than by acting quickly and carelessly.

I hope that helps!

Bye for now Xx
