Running A Business From Over 115 Miles Away

All systems go…

How we run a business over 115 miles away?!

Crazy, huh!?

So it was pretty daunting moving over a 100 miles away from our business that we had spent so so long building and creating. It was definitely challenging and still can be!

My top tip would be to build a strong team, have good connections and great contacts. We have built a fantastic team over the past two years.

First of all, we have an amazing cleaning team, who go above and beyond every single time. This is so important to us, due to us not being in Oxford every day and therefore not being able to inspect the houses as much as we used to. The cleaners are our eyes and ears, they make us aware of any problems that may arise and overall just make everything easier.

Then we have our contractors, we have the strongest team of the most amazingly talented men and women (I’ve got my Dad to thank for this, being in the building industry all of his life meant he had some pretty good contacts) from electricians, carpenters and plumbers just to name a few. It makes running a business remotely so much easier.

Lockboxes, yes lots and lots of lockboxes. We have over 100 keys therefore it’s no good if they are all with me in Dorset. We have two lockboxes at each property, one for management purposes and the other for our tenants or guests. Our cleaners also hold a spare key for each property. Can you tell that we’ve experienced many calls from people who are locked out?

Last but not least our friends and family! A massive shout out and appreciation to my partner Flynns family who have helped us immensely since moving away. No matter how big or small the problem is they have always been there to help and I can’t thank them enough.

So with all of that in mind how do you systemise your business when you are away? Has it given you an idea of how to create the business you have dreamed about but was never quite sure on how?
